Communications Director

Job Description

At Teays Valley Church of God (TVCOG) we are committed to connecting the community to Christ. “You Matter Here” is a slogan that represents a core value which is that each person who walks through the doors of our church is seen, valued, and loved. Each staff member is an integral part of representing Jesus to the community and winning the lost for Christ. Our overarching goal is to make disciples of Jesus who then make disciples.

Using the “Intentional Church” model, which focuses on the Great Commission, we are working on strategies to help us win a minimum of 50 people to Christ annually over the next five years, seeing 250 people coming to faith. We believe a byproduct of spiritual growth will be the doubling of our church attendance over the five-year period as well, growing us to a worshiping congregation of between 950-1000 persons.

The Communications Director shall be a salaried, part-time (20 hours a week with the possibility to expand) employee of TVCOG and will produce and manage content in print and online that enables the staff and church to carry out its mission to win the lost to Christ.  The Communications Director is a core member of a productive, close-knit, and dedicated Christian staff.

The Communications Director must be a highly organized team player who is able to complete tasks in a fast-paced environment. He/she must be comfortable working independently, taking initiative, have an excellent working knowledge of common office systems and technology, have excellent grammar and writing skills, have graphic design and other creative capabilities and be proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite and be able to work on a Mac computer. Experience in Church Center or similar platforms is required. This person shall attend the weekly staff meeting and be a member of Teays Valley Church of God.

  • Must align theologically with TVCOG and its stand on social issues
  • Must have a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree. 

Communication Responsibilities

Communication:

  • Carry the mission, vision, and values of TVCOG through each communication platform.
  • Manage communication projects that reach the whole church. (Video and Print)
  • Collaborate with other ministries to promote ministry initiatives.
  • Work with leadership to develop a strategic communication plan. 
  • Help develop in-house communications systems to ensure ministry synergy and accountability.

Marketing: 

  • Develop and disseminate the TVCOG brand and image to the community. 
  • Market all-church initiatives (sermon series, VBS, Easter, Outreaches, etc.)
  • Develop creative strategies to reach the spiritually disengaged and curious.
  • Write and send press releases to the media.
  • Develop videos to advertise the ministries of TVCOG and evangelize on social media. This includes reels of services, memes that quote messages, etc.
  • Create content that helps us brand our ministry.
  • Capture photos at events for marketing purposes.
  • Develop and automate ads that keep TVCOG regularly in front of the community.
  • Develop and produce signage that is consistent with the church’s mission.
  • Assist in developing a strategy for the relaying of church announcements.

Online Ministry: 

  • Curate helpful and timely content across digital platforms (Website, YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, Mobile App).
  • Grow our following, digital footprint and optimize TVCOG’S presence on all platforms. 
  • Keep our website up to date, informative, and appealing to those who are spiritually seeking.
  • Regularly analyze data and online reach for maximum effectiveness.

The Communications Director shall oversee a budget for communications and will be accountable to the Senior Pastor.
