Ancil Abney
Interim Senior Pastor

Welcome Pastor Ancil Abney
We are pleased to welcome Pastor Ancil Abney to the Teays Valley Church of God as our Interim Pastor.
Pastor Abney brings more than four decades of faithful ministry experience, a deep love for the Church, and a passion for helping congregations navigate seasons of transition with strength and vision. He began his ministry in 1983 after completing his B.A. in Church Ministries at Warner University, with further theological studies at Bowling Green State University, Lexington Theological Seminary, and Trinity College of the Bible and Theological Seminary.
His pastoral leadership includes years of service as a Worship and Student Ministries Pastor before stepping into long-term Lead Pastor roles in Lexington, KY and Bradenton, FL—culminating in a 20-year pastorate at The Church at Bradenton until his retirement in 2019. Since then, he has served faithfully as a TIPS Pastor, guiding churches in Ohio, Oregon, and California through transitional seasons.
Pastor Abney is a committed servant-leader who has also contributed at the national level within the Church of God. His leadership has included roles on the Elder Board and General Assembly in both Florida and Kentucky, as well as over a decade of service on the Board of Trustees at Warner University.
Ancil and his wife Kathleen, married for 43 years, are proud parents of three adult sons: Austin (a Realtor/Investor in North Carolina), Dr. Ancil J. (a pediatrician in Orlando), and Andrew (an aerospace engineer in Seattle). The Abneys share a deep and abiding love for Christ, the Church, and the call of God on their lives.
Pastor Abney’s personal testimony reflects a lifelong commitment to Jesus Christ, shaped by a strong foundation in the Church of God and a clear call to full-time ministry. His heart beats for worship, unity, biblical teaching, and the mission of the Church as expressed in the Great Commission.
We are grateful to have Pastor Abney walk with us during this important season. Please join us in welcoming him and Kathleen with open arms and prayerful hearts as we move forward together in faith.
