Dear Church,

On Sunday I preached a message entitled, “It’s Time to Take Your Temperature.” Our key verses were Revelation 3:15-22:

I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! So, because you are lukewarm–neither hot nor cold–I am about to spit you out of my mouth.

It is clear from Scripture that being lukewarm as a Christ-follower is offensive to God. I challenged us all to check our spiritual temperatures when it comes to three specific areas: Suffering, Sacrifice, and Sin. Do we view these three things the same way God does?

Do we SUFFER like Christ (with the same attitude)?
Do our lives reflect an element of SACRIFICE in any way?
Do we hate SIN and seek to avoid it at all costs?

The way we answer these questions reveals the condition of our spiritual temperatures. The end of Revelation 3 tells us God is standing at the door of our hearts, and He is knocking. While this verse can speak to us about salvation, I believe in the context of this passage it speaks about our internal spiritual temperature? Are we cold? Are we lukewarm? Let’s open the door to the Lord and allow Him to come in and help us to become passionate for Him!
